Texas A&M has accepted a bowl invitation to the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn., and will face off against Louisville of the Atlantic Coast Conference in Nissan Stadium on Dec. 30.
The Aggies (8-4) will be seeking to win a bowl game in five consecutive years for the first time in school history when they take on the Cardinals (7-5) in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, which will kick off at 6 p.m. and be televised nationally by ESPN. It's the seventh straight season that Texas A&M will play in a bowl game, which is also a program first.
The Aggies' four-bowl winning streak in four seasons is tied with Michigan State for the nation's longest. Over the past four seasons, the Aggies have defeated Northwestern in the 2011 Texas Bowl (Houston, Texas), Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl (Arlington, Texas), Duke in the 2013 Chick-fil-A Bowl (Atlanta, Ga.) and West Virginia in the 2014 Liberty Bowl (Memphis, Tenn.).
"We're very excited about the opportunity to play in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl against a very good Louisville squad," Aggie head coach Kevin Sumlin said. "It's a huge opportunity for our program to do something that we've never done before in 120 seasons of football and that's to win five straight bowl games. Our players and coaches are looking forward to the challenge on the field, as well as the chance to experience Nashville. It should be a great week for our team and the 12th Man."Texas A&M Director of Athletics Eric Hyman said "We are extremely pleased to accept an invitation to play in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl. The 12th Man is truly excited about traveling to Nashville to support their team and experience the culture of one of the most exciting cities in the country. This is our seventh straight season to earn a bowl bid, and we will be seeking our fifth straight bowl victory. We look forward to competing against the University of Louisville from the ACC."
Texas A&M's invitation to the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl marks the 37th bowl game in program history, and it will be first time Texas A&M has played in the Nashville bowl which has been contested annually since 1998. The Aggies have good memories of playing in Nashville after logging their first shutout in more than a decade with a 25-0 win over Vanderbilt earlier this season.
The Aggies have faced off against Louisville three times previously with A&M sweeping a three-game series from 1992-94. Texas A&M posted 40-18 and 42-7 wins in College Station in 1992 and 1993, respectively, and then won 26-10 in Louisville, Ky., in 1994.
