
Texas A&M’s Kris Grimes earns South Central Region assistant coach of the year honor

EUGENE – Postseason honors for track and field included Texas A&M assistant coach Kris Grimes being named the men's assistant coach of the year for the South Central Region by the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association. Awards were presented on Tuesday prior to the start of the NCAA Championships.
In his second year with the Aggie program, Grimes had four athletes male advance to the national championship meet with a pair each in the pole vault and triple jump. During the SEC Championships, the jumps group scored 26 points as Texas A&M men totaled 95 points to finish in a tie for second place with Arkansas.
Competing in the national championship meet from the men's jump groups are Latario Collie and Olabanji Asekun in the triple jump along with Chase Wolfle and Audie Wyatt in the pole vault.
Collie is the current collegiate leader in the triple jump with a mark of 56-4 ½ (17.18) that broke the SEC Championship record and bettered the A&M school record. His mark is also fourth best in the world for the 2015 season. Collie's best effort as runner-up in the SEC meet was a wind-aided 56-7 ¼ (17.25) that also bettered the all-conditions best at A&M.
During the NCAA West preliminary rounds Collie led the field of 48 with a mark of 54-3 ¾ (16.55) while Asekun claimed the 12th and final spot with a season best of 51-0 (15.54).
In the pole vault Wyatt surpassed the best mark by an Aggie frosh when he cleared 17-11 ¼ (5.48) to place second in the SEC Championships amid a couple of rain and lightning delays. Wyatt and Wolfle both cleared 17-6 ½ (5.35) to place third and fourth in the NCAA West meet.
Wyatt is currently the second best freshman in the nation and ranks ninth among collegians and he is No. 5 on the A&M all-time list. Among world juniors in 2015 Wyatt currently ranks third and leads the American list.
Wolfle, who tied the indoor school record of 18-0 ½ (5.50) in placing second at SEC Indoor this season, has an outdoor best of 17-8 ½ (5.40) in 2015 that won the B division of the Texas Relays. In tying for fifth place in the 2014 NCAA Championship Wolfle cleared 18-0 ½ after setting a career best of 18-3 for third place in the SEC meet.
