A summary of Coach Sumlin's thoughts is below.
- Day 1. Got a lot of individual work because we don't have pads. Installation, field goal and field goal block. Had a long individual period so a lot of new guys could get into things.
- Quarterbacks. Actually got about 30 7-on-7 snaps. Each quarterback got about 10 or so, the three guys. Had 50 plays of team on a 5-play rotation. Kyle (Allen) came back doing things well. Kyler (Murray) has picked it up real well. Jake (Hubenak) benefits from being at Oklahoma State for a little bit from a structural standpoint. He understands it. Those guys really didn't make too many mistakes from an operational standpoint, if any.
- Wide Receivers. We're practicing against a lot more man-to-man coverage. That has helped us too. Our skill level on perimeter is going to help not only our defense and our corners get better but I think what we're doing during practice helps.
- Linebackers. Doing well. AJ Hilliard had pretty serious injuries. Taking it a bit slower with him. Other guys are all going. Otaro Alaka looks good. Josh Walker looks good. Shaan Washington looks good.
- Brandon Williams at DB. Been one day but he did well today. When playing defense against Speedy Noil and Josh Reynolds you better figure out what to do in a hurry. That kind of competition level is going to make everyone better.
- Excitement level. Guys really excited out there. Been excited for a while. We're one of last teams to get started. They've been watching TV the last week watching guys go all over the country. We may not be last team but one of last teams to get going. Been long offseason which is okay. Our guys take advantage of that time from a strength and conditioning standpoint.
- Running back depth. We're okay. Not to say that Jay Bradford wouldn't have been in the mix. Probably between him and Kendall Bussey, one of them was probably going to play. One of those things where health is more important than football.
- Daylon Mack. He got here about 350. We sat down and to his credit met with Jon Tanguay our nutritionist and with the coaches and he changed his diet. Lost about 15 pounds. That's what summer program does for you instead of guys coming in during 2-a-days and trying to do that. Will probably be around 330 we hope for the first game. He's moving around well. After guys see what's really going on in practice, they know they need to take care of themselves and their bodies. They figure out they have to take care of body to compete on daily basis. In SEC and over course of next 4 months still have to take care of body. He's learning that. Been pleased with his approach.
- Darrell Jackson. Right now he's undergoing a medical evaluation. So we'll see where he's going to be.
A summary of Tra Carson's thoughts is below.
- Start of camp. Feels great to be back on field. Great to be back out there with the guys.
- New jersey number. Just wanted to do something different this year.
- Weight. Weighed in today at 238. I feel great. Everyone will be tired first day. By end of camp should be around 230.
- Senior year. Very motivated. Always come in motivated. We have high expectations as we should.
- Addition of Dave Christensen as run game coordinator. Some of the stuff is similar but I definitely thing it's going to help our running situation.
- On being the guy right now at RB. Excites me a lot. I just can't wait. Greatful they gave me the opportunity. I'm going to take it and run with it.
- James White. He is really a beast. Can do anything you cask him to do. Will do the right thing. Brings power but has great feet. Antoher weapon we'll definitely use.
- Kendall Bussey. Young guy just got his feet wet today. He's working hard trying to get better every day.
- Excitement of senior year and starting camp. Very excited. Couldn't sleep last night. Amped and ready for practice.
- Offensive line. Those guys made strides from bowl game to now. Just can't wait to see them on game day and run through those holes. They work hard every day.
- Team's work ethic. Make sure getting better every day. Keep working hard, take it day by day, and at end of season hopefully we're where we want to be. Keep head down keep working.
