Been a good camp. Lot of guys stepped up and made plays. Really biggest surprise has been Damion Ratley. Played really well. Great camp. Really excited about his progress. Ricky Seals-Jones and Christian Kirk and Speedy Noil and Josh Reynolds have had a great camp. Also have been excited about Jeremy Tabuyo as well.
Ratley vying for fifth spot. Yeah I think so. Especially the backup outside. Boone Niederhofer and Sabian Holmes are fighting for the inside job. Jeremy is still fighting. Edward Pope has done a great job. Never going to count out a guy who's had success at this level. Going into game week we have good weapons. Good thing when going against Arizona State.
Making wide receivers more physical. You have to set the standards. If it's every day you're playing physical they'll buy into that. They have done a good job. Going out every day proving how physical they can be. Guy like Christian Kirk comes in and does really good things in spring, guys realized what it will take. Made guys like Ricky and Speedy step their game up. They had shown flashes of being tough now constantly being tough. And that's a good thing. When national people look at us I want them to see us as the toughest group out on the field.
Christian carrying consistency over from spring. Has done really well. Between him and Ricky probably the two most consistent guys this camp. Christian is really mature for a young guy. Asks right questions. Stays after and works on his craft.
Progression in blocking. Everyone has it in them. Whether you're demanded to do it and taught to do it and do it the right way. Something I pride myself on, demanding toughness and consistency and learning at a certain level. If I'm going to teach them at certain level eventually they are going to get it. Pleased with those guys right now. Have to continue to get better. Got to keep that going.
Going against John Chavis defense makes the wideouts grow. Have to grow. If you're out there on an island you'll get embarrassed if you can't get off press coverage. Makes you grow up fast. Guys want to get better, they'll find a way to. That's where a Damion Ratley has stood out. He works and works and works. Really encouraging from him. From an outside receiver perspective seeing press every day is great because when you don't it's a breath of fresh air.
Ricky Seals-Jones improvement from last year. Think two fold. Has become tougher and a more consistent pass catcher. Game has slowed down for him. Was a quarterback in high school. Got hurt his first year here. Last year was his first year playing wide receiver. Was tough for him. He will be first one to admit that. Don't think it was a smooth year for him. Was just fresh out really, playing a new position in the best conference with the best defenders in college football. Think the game now has slowed down for him. He's understanding defenses and coverages. Can never take that for granted. Once the game slows down that's where athleticism, size and speed can take over.
Speedy learning the position. He wants to be great. Wants to learn everything. Taking everything in. Got to continue to get consistent, we have to develop that from not only him but everyone in our group. He watches a lot of film. Asks questions. Mentally pleased with where we are at. Physically always things we can continue to improve on.
Expectations from a healthy Josh Reynolds. If I'm Josh I'm looking to break my own record, and get 1,000 yards, and what I can do to get better every day. Well, last year with a bad shoulder he wasn't a very good blocker. Will continue to improve on that. Continue to get off press coverage better now that he has two healthy arms. Excited to see his progress this year. Pleased with him. Real excited where he is at. We have a great group. Daily thing of competition. They know if they don't play well I'm putting the next guy in, I don't care who you are. They know that and that makes my job a lot easier.
