Jeneba Tarmoh reaches 200m final again at IAAF World Championships

BEIJING, China – Texas A&M grad Jeneba Tarmoh advanced to the final of the 200 meters at the IAAF World Championships with a runner-up finish in her semifinal heat at the Bird's Nest on Thursday.
Tarmoh clocked a time of 22.38 seconds to finish second in the final semifinal heat behind the 22.12 career best set by Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain. Tarmoh finished ahead of Jamacia's Veronica Campbell-Brown, who advanced to the final on time with her season best of 22.47 in third place.
Tarmoh, who set a career best of 22.23 this season in Monaco, looks to improve upon her fifth-place finish from the 2013 World Championships. The final will be contested at 8 a.m. CT on Friday morning.
Three Jamaicans advanced to the final of the 200 meters with Elaine Thompson winning the first semifinal heat in 22.13 ahead of American Candyce McGrone (22.26) while Sherone Simpson (22.53) was runner-up to Netherland's Dafne Schippers (22.36) in the second semifinal.
Weekend action at the World Championships may include four Aggies with relay duty in either the prelims or finals. Tarmoh is part of the United States 4x100 relay pool while Jessica Beard is in the American 4x400 relay pool. Shavez Hart is part of the Bahamas 4x100 relay pool while Deon Lendore is in the Trinidad & Tobago 4x400 relay pool.
Prelims in the relays will take place on Friday evening local time. The 4x400 prelims will be held first at 9:15 p.m. CT for the women and 9:40 p.m. CT for the men. The 4x100 prelims start at 11 p.m. CT for the women and 11:20 p.m. CT for the men.
