Jones Named Naismith Award Player of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After spearheading the Aggie offense during road wins over Mississippi State and Tennessee last week, Texas A&M senior Jalen Jones was named Naismith Trophy Player of the Week late Tuesday evening.
The Dallas native averaged 19 points and pulled down 15 rebounds during the two victories, helping the Aggies improve to 13-2 on the season with a perfect 3-0 mark in SEC play. Highlighting the week, was a game-high 27-point performance during a come-from-behind win over the Vols in Knoxville on Saturday.
The Naismith Awards were founded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club to recognize accomplished athletes, coaches, officials and contributors to high school and college basketball. Named in honor of Dr. James Naismith, the creator of the game of basketball, the first Naismith trophy was awarded in 1969 to UCLA's Lew Alcindor, later known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
