Aggies move up in national rankings, A&M men No. 3, women No. 20

NEW ORLEANS – Performances over the past two weeks have enabled the Aggies to move up in the national rankings generated by USTFCCCA. The Texas A&M men improved from its preseason rank of ninth to third in the recent rankings announced on Monday while the A&M women went up one position to No. 20.
The top 15 men's programs include 1. Florida, 2. Texas, 3. Texas A&M, 4. Virginia Tech, 5. Oregon, 6. LSU, 7. Georgia, 8. Tennessee, 9. Washington, 10. TCU, 11. Arkansas, 12. Colorado, 13. Nebraska, 14. Stanford, and 15. Texas Tech.
Ranked among the women's top 15 include 1. Arkansas, 2. Georgia, 3. Texas, 4. Kansas State, 5. Oregon, 6. Florida, 7. USC, 8. Kentucky, 9. Wisconsin, 10. Georgetown, 11. Baylor, 12. Tennessee, 13. Michigan, 14. Stanford, and 15. Alabama.
The improvement in rankings for the Aggie men came from the world-leading performance of 1:45.93 by freshman Donavan Brazier in the 800, which broke the American Junior indoor record and the A&M school record. Other impressive marks for the Aggies included a 46.70 clocking by Fred Kerley in the 400, a 1:48.35 in the 800 for Hector Hernandez, Will Williams long jump of 25-9 ¼, a 20.94 in the 200 for Devin Jenkins and a pair of 17-9 clearances in the pole vault by Jacob Wooten and Audie Wyatt.
Kerley's mark, No. 13 on the A&M all-time list, currently ranks seventh on the 2016 indoor world list and fourth among Americans. Williams' long jump effort, which ranks No. 3 on the A&M all-time list, is currently tied for eighth in the world and equal fourth among Americans. Jenkins is currently fifth in the world with his 200 time and third among Americans while Hernandez ranks fifth in the world in the 800.
The 52.96 opener in the 400 for Shamier Little currently ranks third on the 2016 indoor world list and is second among Americans while a 53.53 from Briyahna Desrosiers is eighth on the world list and sixth among Americans. In the 200 a 23.42 by Aaliyah Brown ranks seventh in the world and sixth among Americans.
In relay events the women's 4x400 ranks fifth best in the world at 3:35.64 while the men's 4x400 is sixth best in the world at 3:07.95.
Up next for Texas A&M is its first road trip of the indoor season as they travel to Fayetteville for the Razorback Invitational this Friday and Saturday. Teams scheduled to compete with the Aggies in the two-day scored meet include host Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Purdue and Texas.
Friday's coverage of the meet will be available on the SEC Network + from 5 to 8:30 p.m. while a four-hour portion of Saturday's meet will appear on the SEC Network TV channel from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will also be available online (SEC Network).
