Aggie Will Williams receives SEC Field Athlete of the Week honor

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M sophomore Will Williams received a conference honor on Tuesday as he was selected as the men's SEC Field Athlete of the Week. Williams produced a mark of 25 feet, 9 ¼ inches on his first long jump in an Aggie uniform this past Saturday.
Williams won the long jump competition at the Texas A&M Quadrangular as the Aggies improved its indoor home dual meet record to 14-0 since 2009 as they defeated Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Arizona State.
The winning leap for Williams is an indoor career best, which ranks fourth on the Aggie all-time indoor list and is the seventh best performance. The trio of A&M jumpers ahead of Williams on the indoor school list are Fabrice Lapierre (26-4 ½), Julian Reid (26-0) and Tim Bryant (25-9 ½).
As the leading mark this indoor season in the SEC, Williams also ranks third among collegians. He is also ninth on the current 2016 world indoor list and fourth among American jumpers.
Williams is scheduled to compete in the long jump at the Razorback Invitational this weekend as the No. 3 Aggie men are part of a 13-team field competing in Fayetteville. The talented long jump field includes 2014 NCAA Indoor champion Jarrion Lawson of Arkansas, who was runner-up in both 2015 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor championship events, as well as Florida's KeAndre Bates, the 2015 NCAA Indoor bronze medalist.
