TCU Horned Frogs
Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle
Opening Statement…
"Excited to be here. It's been a long week of practice. We were anxious to get down and excited to get on the baseball field this afternoon and get a feel for the ballpark. We have great memories here from our last trip in 2012. Looking forward to a great weekend of baseball."
On starting Jared Janczak…
"It just felt like the way that everybody's been pitching, and we feel very confident in all three of the guys that started games in the regional. It just felt like to this point, especially in the last month, Jared has been, at least from a strike-throwing standpoint, the most consistent guy. I think he has a lot of confidence, and if he's pitching at his best, it's a good matchup for our opponent but it really could have been any of the three."
On facing Texas A&M's lineup…
"You have to execute pitches, there's no doubt about it. You have to throw strikes. You can't set the table for any team. I think the biggest thing in this park and in this environment is you have to be able to get off the field. You have to be able to make a play or execute a pitch so that the innings don't steamroll on you. That's going to come down to their routines, controlling their body and controlling their breathing so that they can execute pitches. They have a very versatile lineup. There's power, there's speed, there's elite experience, talent. We're very respectful of our opponent, but it's never about the best team, it's only about the team that plays the best."
Freshman pitcher Jared Janczak
On starting game one…
"I'm thrilled. This time last year I was watching on TV so I'm just really excited to get out there and perform.
On facing Texas A&M's lineup…
"It's simple as one pitch as a time, don't try to take it big picture. Just execute one pitch at a time and trust your defense behind you. That's all I can do."
Sophomore catcher Evan Skoug
On Jared Janczak…
"Just the fact that he can come in and command the zone with three pitches now. His work ethic has been great and his consistency has been awesome. He's a great competitor and he gets after it every time we give him the ball. For me behind the plate, just having a guy out there that wants to be out there and wants to win, it's a huge benefit for our team. I know we have a good shot of winning when he's on the mound."
On being in College Station for the Super Regional…
"Take the same approach, we're going to take it one pitch at a time, stay in our routines and just treat it like another baseball game. I know we're on a big platform here, playing in the national spotlight but we're just going to stick with what we've been taught."
Texas A&M Aggies
Head Coach Rob Childress
Opening statement…
"We're certainly looking forward to this weekend. We've had a very good week of practice and preparation for TCU. (They're) very similar to us, they played extremely well in their conference tournament. Won that. Won their regional last weekend. They're playing as well as they've played have all year. We'll certainly have our hands full this weekend, but we're looking forward to being at home, playing in front of The 12th Man and playing our very best baseball."
On the Aggies playing their best baseball of the year…
"I think we have at times throughout the course of the year. There was a six or seven game stretch in there from an offensive standpoint that we did some special things in the middle of the year. Certainly on into the conference tournament, this past weekend, you're starting to see all three phases put together at a very high level. That's what our hope is for this weekend - we continue to play the way we have the last few weeks."
On playing a final series at home…
"I feel like our team is built for a three-game series, at least it seems that way this deep into the season. Like you said, we've only lost one. That weekend at Florida, the scores weren't indicative as to how bad they beat us in every facet of the game. For us to come back and respond the way that we did throughout the finish in the regular season says a lot about the character and leadership of our team. We look forward to tomorrow night and getting the weekend started."
Senior outfielder JB Moss
On last year's Super Regional loss as a motivator…
"I think at times it has. I think more during the week during a Tuesday or Wednesday practice when you're not feeling so great. I think during the weekend in our conference you have to focus on the opponent at hand. I think that you don't really pay attention to what happened last year. I think it served as a motivational tool for practice days and sometimes during the year when you're not really feeling it."
On the emotions of this weekend…
"I think the biggest key, and I think whoever wins this series is who best manages their emotions. I think there's going to be a lot of excitement and electricity in the air early. Whoever throws the first punch, I'm anxious for that to be over and us just to get playing baseball and doing what we do best. We've been great all season here at home and even on the road. Like I said, I think our guys are just excited to play baseball and to be out there competing with one another."
Sophomore pitcher Brigham Hill
On starting for the Aggies in game one…
"I'm super excited. Just ready to get the team off to a great start and go as long as I can to give them my best shot. Hopefully give them a win."
On his growth since last year…
"I think all of the freshmen from last year going into this year, we're just all more confident and I think that plays a huge role in the success you have."
