White Named a Dick Howser Trophy Finalist

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M third baseman Boomer White was named one of five finalists for the 2016 Dick Howser Trophy presented by Easton Foundations as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Thursday.
In addition to White, other finalists include Clemson's Seth Beer, Wake Forest's Will Craig, Louisville's Brendan McKay and Kent State's Eric Lauer.
White, the SEC Player of the Year, is batting .398 on the season with 49 runs, 18 doubles, five home runs, 46 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He set the SEC record for most hits in league play, notching 57 knocks in 30 games. White batted .471 with 24 runs, 13 doubles, three home runs and 28 RBI in league play.
He has already picked up All-America recognition from Baseball America (first team) and Collegiate Baseball (third team).
Balloting was conducted by the NCBWA, in conjunction with the Dick Howser Trophy committee and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. The winner will be unveiled on MLB Network on Friday, June 17, and then a press conference with the winner will be held in Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday, June 18 at 10 am (CDT), the opening day of the 2016 College World Series.
Each finalist also represents the ideals of character, leadership, desire, and competitive spirt exhibited by Dick Howser, the All-America shortstop and later head coach at Florida State, before managing the Kansas City Royals to the world championship in 1985. He is also the namesake for Dick Howser Stadium at FSU.
The Howser Trophy was created in 1987, shortly after Howser's death.
