Aggie Hoops Reveals Non-Conference Schedule
Aug 09, 2016 | Men's Basketball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Highlighted by seven regular season contests inside the friendly confines of Reed Arena, the Texas A&M men's basketball program revealed its complete schedule of non-conference games on Tuesday.
Following a home exhibition contest against St. Edwards on Nov. 4, the 2016-17 regular season gets underway in earnest on Friday, Nov. 11, when Northwestern State makes a trip to Reed Arena to face the defending SEC Co-Champion Aggies, who enter the season looking to build on last season's 28-win campaign that culminated in a trip to the Sweet 16.
The month of November will also see the Aggies welcome American (Nov. 14) and Pac-12 foe Southern California (Nov. 18) to College Station. The Trojans, who Texas A&M will also face in California next season, represent one of three 2016 NCAA Tournament squads slated to face the Aggies in non-conference action.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Texas A&M will travel west to the Golden State where they will take part in the 2016 DirecTV Wooden Legacy. The first two days of competition, Nov. 24-25, take place in Fullerton, Calif., with the Aggies scheduled to take on CSUN during the opening round before facing either New Mexico or Virginia Tech the following day.
The final day of the tournament, Nov. 27, will see the action shift to the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., where the Aggies most recently played their Sweet 16 contest against Oklahoma during last season's March Madness run. The opposite side of the DirecTV Wooden Legacy bracket consists of Dayton, Nebraska, Portland and tournament-host UCLA.
Returning to Aggieland following the West Coast trip, Texas A&M will open a three-game homestand featuring Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Dec. 5), Denver (Dec. 7) and South Carolina State (Dec. 10).
The Aggies stand out as one of the country's toughest teams to beat on their home court, compiling a 48-8 (.857) mark inside the facility during the last three seasons under head coach Billy Kennedy, including a 17-1 home record last year. During the 18-year history of Reed Arena, Texas A&M is 136-13 (.913) all-time against non-conference competition.
In a highly anticipated marquee neutral site game, Texas A&M will face Arizona, which is coming off a 25-win, NCAA Tournament season, inside Houston's Toyota Center on Dec. 17. The contest will be one half of a college basketball doubleheader in the Bayou City that day, with Arkansas and Texas also slated to face off at Toyota Center. Tickets for the Arizona game will be announced at a later date.
The Aggies' final non-conference tune-up before they look to defend their league title during SEC play will take place on Dec. 21 when they host St. Francis.
Texas A&M will take a break from league play in late January and travel to Morgantown, W. Va., where the Aggies will face the West Virginia Mountaineers during the 2017 Big 12-SEC Challenge. During last season's Big 12-SEC Challenge, Texas A&M notched an important NCAA resume win with a 72-62 victory over then No. 14 Iowa State.
The full schedule of SEC competition is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, as will game times and television information for the Aggies' non-conference games.
An affordable, family entertainment option, season tickets for Texas A&M men's basketball begin as low as $100. Annual per seat contributions are required for some seating areas.
