
Texas A&M’s Pickrem places sixth in 200 IM at Rio Olympics

RIO DE JANIERO, Brazil – Texas A&M sophomore-to-be Sydney Pickrem placed sixth in the 200-meter IM on Tuesday at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Representing Canada, Pickrem, from Dunedin, Fla., grabbed the sixth place finish in a time of 2:11.22. Her finish tied for the second-best individual finish at an Olympic Games by a current Texas A&M swimmer, matching the sixth-place performance by then-sophomore Breeja Larson in the 100 breaststroke at the 2012 London Olympics.
In other action involving Texas A&M Swimming, Cammile Adams, a two-time NCAA Champion for the Aggies from 2011-14, advanced through two rounds of the women's 200-meter butterfly to advance to Wednesday's Championship final. Adams, who is competing in her second Olympic Games, posted a time of 2:06.67 in the morning prelim and then earned the final qualifying spot with a 2:07.22 in the evening semifinals.
It marks Adams' second Olympic Championship final appearance of her swimming career. As a Texas A&M sophomore in 2012, Adams, who hails from Cypress, Texas, placed fifth in the 200 fly at the London Olympic Games, which is the highest individual Olympic finish by a current Texas A&M swimmer.
