Aggie Basketball Reveals Team Awards

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men's basketball team revealed its annual team awards Wednesday evening, highlighted by sophomore guard Admon Gilder who was honored as the team's Most Outstanding Player.
The program's award winners are as follows:
Most Outstanding Player: Admon Gilder
The second-year Aggie stepped into a leadership role both on and off the court this season as Gilder's name appeared throughout the lists of SEC statistical leaders. Among all SEC players, the Dallas native ranked 17th in scoring (13.7 points per game), second in steals per game (1.9), second in minutes played (34.6), eighth in assists per game (3.9) as well as 10th in 3-point field goals made per game (1.9). Additionally, Gilder check in at 47th nationally in steals per game.
Gilder stood out as A&M's ironman down the season's final stretch by playing all but 16 minutes of the Aggies' final 15 games while leading the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game.
Chris Walker Hustle Award: Tyler Davis
Davis was honored by the SEC coaches for the second straight season, being named Second Team All-SEC after garnering SEC All-Freshman Team distinction a year ago. The Plano, Texas, native, who was named SEC Player of the Week on Dec. 12, paced the SEC and ranked 14th nationally in field goal percentage by converting 62.7 percent of his shot attempts. Davis averaged 14.1 points per contest this season to rank 13th in the league and pulled down 7.0 boards per contest, checking in at eighth in the SEC in rebounding.
Newcomer of the Year: Robert Williams
Williams, the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-SEC performer, made 17 starts during his rookie year averaging 11.9 points per game, a team-leading 8.2 rebounds per contest and shooting an impressive 55.8 percent from the field. Williams totaled 11 double-doubles, second only to Ole Miss senior Sebastian Saiz among all SEC players. The Oil City, La., native owns the nation's longest active blocked shot streak, collecting a swat in all 31 contests as a rookie, posting 22 multi-block games including eight affairs with four or more blocks.
Williams, who was projected to be a first round in the 2017 NBA Draft, has announced he will return to Texas A&M for his sophomore season.
Daniels Scoates Garner Scholar Athlete Award: Tonny Trocha-Morelos
Trocha-Morelos was honored with the Daniels Scoates Garner Scholar Athlete Award after garnering the Academic Momentum Award from the Scholar-Baller/National Sports Consortium as a sophomore last season. A university studies business major and native of Cartagena, Colombia, Trocha-Morelos played in all 21 games during the 2016-17 campaign with 27 starting assignments. He averaged 8.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per outing while contributing 66 assists, 30 blocked shots, 26 steals and shooting 40.6 percent from the floor.
Unsung Hero Award & Strength and Conditioning Award: Tavario Miller
One of just two seniors on the 2016-17 squad, Miller was a consistent source of leadership and encouragement for his teammates with his relentless work ethic and dedication to make those around him better. The Long Island, Bahamas, native saw action in all 31 games this season and a total of 123 during his four-year career in Aggieland.
