COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies commence the 2017 campaign Friday afternoon when they play the Pepperdine Waves at San Diego's Torero Stadium. First kick for the match is slated for 6:30 pm Central.
Texas A&M returns 13 letterwinners from the 2016 campaign, including 8 of 11 starters. The returnees account for 24 of the Aggies' 27 goals from last season and the Maroon and White add the potent Ally Watt who redshirted last season while playing for the United States U20 Women's National Team. Texas A&M welcomes back All-American Mikaela Harvey, along with fellow All-SEC performer Haley Pounds and former SEC All-Freshman honorees Emily Bates, Grace Piper and Watt.
The Aggies finished the 2016 season with a 12-8-2 record. The Maroon and White appeared in their 22nd consecutive NCAA Division I Championship and advanced to the Second Round for the 19th consecutive year.
Pepperdine is coming off a 12-5-4 campaign in 2016. The Waves finished tied with BYU for the West Coast Conference regular-season title with a 7-1-1 mark. Pepperdine advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship, upending California on PKs in the first round before dropping a 1-0 decision to North Carolina State.
The Waves were picked to finish fourth in the WCC Coaches Preseason Poll. Bri Visali is the top returner for Pepperdine. The senior midfielder earned All-WCC Second Team in 2016, logging 11 points on five goals and one assist. She earned All-WCC First Team in 2015 and WCC All-Freshman in 2014.
