Aug 28, 2017 | Men's Golf
NORTH PLAINS, Ore. — Former Texas A&M men's golf standout Conrad Shindler earned his 2017-18 PGA Tour membership card on Sunday at the Web.com Tour's final Regular Season event, the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft-Heinz, contested on the Witch Hollow Course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
An honorable mention All-American during his A&M career (2008-2011) as well as a member of the Aggies' 2009 National Championship squad, Shindler is among 25 players who earned their membership card to compete on golf's highest level for the upcoming season. An additional 25 cards will be awarded to Web.com players following the conclusion of the four-event Finals, which begin this week in Columbus, Ohio with the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship.
This season on the Web.com Tour, Shindler stood out as the winner at the Rex Hospital Open while carding two more top-10 showings at the Panama Claro Championship (T-5th) and WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft-Heinz (T-8th).
The 50 card earners will join the PGA TOUR for the 2017-18 season, which opens the week of October 2-8 with the Safeway Open in Napa, Calif.

On getting his PGA TOUR card…
"The first thing I always think about is when my dad took me to the Byron Nelson when I was in first or second grade. The first shot he told me these are the best players in the world and the guy chips in. I was just like this is unbelievable, I've never seen anything like it. So from then on I knew that's what I wanted to do. There was never, obviously, I wanted to get a great education and I got that at Texas A&M, but I knew from the get go that this is what I wanted to do. Had some serious struggles and had hand surgery that had me out for six months and came all the way through Q School from first stage this year. So to get through and to get a win was incredible, but to put together a good season and move to the PGA TOUR in one year is all you could ask for."
On what he learned most about his game this year…
"That you have the game. You have what it takes to beat these guys. Obviously, everyone is going to have their week, but I have the game to stand up with them and play with them. The event I won was opposite of Memorial, so we had some TOUR guys there and it was one of the stronger fields we had and to come out on top was monumental. But it gave me the boost and the belief to know that we have what it takes."
On playing with TOUR players in Dallas at home…
"I think what I've learned so much from these guys is to be successful on TOUR you don't have to do crazy things. You don't have to shoot 66 every time you tee it up. It's just about making your bad good enough and just keeping your head in the fight because the money is good out there. If you're poking around, you can make a quiet million dollars and no one even see it coming. I just learned a lot of how to manage my way around the golf course. I've always had the raw ability to shoot good scores, and like I said turning your bad into somewhat good and learning how to grind out those 69s and you walk off and you go man I didn't have good stuff but we got 3-under out of it. So learning how to keep your head in the fight."
