COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies look to start 4-0 for the fifth consecutive season as they host the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks in a 6:32 p.m. contest Tuesday on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The fourth win came against the Lumberjacks in each of the last four seasons. The Maroon & White are 25-1 all-time against SFA.
Texas A&M is coming off a three-game sweep of Rhode Island, outscoring the Rams 18-6. With the sweep, the Aggies improved to 30-1 on opening weekends since 2009. Head coach Rob Childress picked up his 500th career win in the season opener.
Freshman southpaw Dustin Saenz takes the mound Tuesday for his first appearance as an Aggie.
Fellow rookie Zach DeLoach was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday. He is 7-for-10 in his last two games with one double, one triple, one home run, four runs and three RBI.
The Aggies were productive at the plate and on the mound against Rhode Island. The Maroon & White batted .337 for the weekend and cranked out five home runs on Sunday. The pitchers recorded a 1.67 ERA for the weekend and the bullpen didn't allow a run in 12.0 innings of work.
