TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach Rob Childress
On the win…
"We came out played clean baseball. I'm really proud of the maturity of the guys, finishing off the week the right way. That starts on the mound with Mitchell Kilkenny, who was dominate. Flawless defense behind him. All in all, just really pleased with the effort."
On Mitchell Kilkenny's performance…
"They sucked a lot of pitches out of him the first three innings. He was almost at 50 pitches even though he hadn't given up a hit. They fouled a lot of pitches off. The next three innings he was incredibly efficient. Carrying a no-hitter into the seventh, just a fantastic job."
On Chris Andritsos' weekend…
"He's important in this lineup. He definitely has gotten off to a wonderful start. The first weekend, he didn't have a lot of hits to show for it but he swung the bat well. He's another threat. As a pitcher, you have to make great pitches and get through the middle of the order. He's a big guy but he plays incredibly hard and he's not a clogger, he can run the bases really well. He knows what we need in those spots, getting to second base with two outs. He likes to get after it."
On Allonte Wingate playing all over the field…
"He's like a Swiss army knife. He's just a very good player. If you were a baseball fan and came to the field and saw him taking ground balls at any position or taking fly balls at any outfield position you would think that's his spot. He's just a valuable piece to have on the bench and, the way he's played, he's earned an opportunity to start."
Junior INF/OF Allonte Wingate
On offense…
"The whole team can hit. It's fun just watching anybody just come in and guys can get two to three at bats per game and have quality at bats, one through nine, whenever they come in."
On coming off the bench and contributing…
"I just try to stay ready whenever my number's called on, just like everybody else is trying to do. Our coaches preach that because we are really deep this year. We have a lot of guys who can play at different times. Just be ready whenever your name is called."
Sophomore 1B Chris Andritsos
On what he showed when they reverse-shifted him…
"I was just battling up there with two strikes, that's all. That is what we are told to do, so I got lucky. It was obvious that the short stop had moved way over, so I didn't change anything, you just have to hit the ball hard."
On his hustle for a big guy…
"I mean it is just hard nineties and when you put pressure on people, you get distracted. It's not really anything new, we work on it every day."
Junior RHP Mitchell Kilkenny
On how comfortable he is with his secondary pitches…
"It's getting better and better, you know I have had trouble with that in the past few years, but I worked on it all fall with Coach Childress. I have also gotten a lot of tips from Kyle Simonds. Really it is just being able to replicate it all."
On whether his stuff is sharper or if he is throwing for strikes…
"It is a little bit of both, you got to know your count, situation, and who the batter is. The coaches did a really good job of making us aware of that."
On if he more comfortable pitching on Sunday…
"Well, we all love it when something is on the line, and whether that is a sweep or a series win, it doesn't really matter. It is just a lot of fun to play for something."
