Schoenvogel Delivers Walk-off Double
Mar 07, 2018 | Baseball
The Aggies got the game-ending rally going with two outs in the inning. Will Frizzell singled to second base and was replaced by pinch-runner Cole Taylor. Cole Bedford punched an opposite field single through the right side to push Taylor into scoring position. After looking at a first-pitch strike, Schoenvogel drove the pitch down the rightfield line, rounded first and headed for second base where he was mobbed by teammates as Taylor scored the winning run.
Cole Bedford was 3-for-6 with one double and Chris Andritsos was 3-for-6 with two runs as the Maroon & White pounded out 16 hits.
With much of the staff scuffling early on, Cason Sherrod (1-0) came on to pitch in the seventh inning and was impressive to pick up the victory. He scattered three hits while striking out four in his 4.2 innings of work.
The Aggies improved to 13-1 on the season. Northwestern State saw its mark drop to 7-6.
SCORING SUMMARY
T1 | For the first time in 2018, the Aggies yielded a first-inning run. With two outs, Luke Watson drew a five-pitch walk and J.P. Lagreco followed with a single through the left side. Watson came around to score when Allonte Wingate's throw to first on a slow roller down the third base line by Austin Townsend went wide of the target. NSU 1, A&M 0.
T3| With one out, David Fry singled through the left side and Watson singled to center to put runners on the corners and drive starter Christian Roa from the contest. Kaylor Chafin entered the contest and hit Lagreco with a 2-2 pitch to load the bases. Townsend singled in Fry and Watson came around to score when Schoenvogel misplayed the ball in rightfield. The Demons tacked on another run with a single to center by Caleb Ricca. NSU 4, A&M 0.
T4 | Larson Fontenot placed a perfect bunt for a leadoff single. With one out, Fry singled to rightfield to knock Fontenot in scoring position. After Watson stuck out looking, Lagreco singled to leftfield to score Fontenot from second. NSU 5, A&M 0.
B4 | The Aggies finally broke the scoring seal with a pair of runs. With one out, Andritsos knocked a first-pitch offering for a single to leftfield and Logan Foster blasted the very next pitch, 397 feet, over the leftfield wall for his second dinger of the year. NSU 5, A&M 2.
T6 | Kwan Adkins and Fry each drew walks from Aggie reliever Asa Lacy to start the inning. Jason Ruffcorn spelled Lacy on the mound and uncorked a wild pitch to push both runners into scoring position and Watson plated Adkins with a sacrifice fly. NSU 6, A&M 2.
B6 | Andritsos started another inning with a single, this time past the glove of the Demons' third baseman. Andritsos moved to second on a wild pitch and Logan Foster drew a six-pitch walk. Frizzell singled up the middle to drive in Andritsos. The Maroon & White would tack on two more runs in the inning as Foster scored on a wild pitch and Frizzell scored on a balk. NSU 6, A&M 5.
B8 | With one out, Schoenvogel singled through the left side and Allonte Wingate drew a four-pitch walk. After George Janca was sent in to pinch-run for Wingate a wild pitch gave the Aggies' two runners in scoring position, DeLoach bounced a single up the middle, scoring Schoenvogel with the equalizer, but centerfielder Adkins gunned Janca out at the plate. NSU 6, A&M 6.
B11 | With two outs, Frizzell hit a sharp ground past the glove of the Demons' second baseman who went to one knee on the play. Taylor was called on to pinch-run for Frizzell and motored to second on Bedford's opposite field single. Schoenvogel ended the game with an opposite field double down the rightfield line. A&M 7, NSU 6.

TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Senior OF Baine Schoenvogel
On the comeback mindset…
The guys in the dugout kept us in it the whole time. Bullpen did a great job. Then our offense was battling at bats, one after another to give us that last chance in the last inning. That was all we needed, one more shot."
Senior RHP Cason Sherrod
On what win meant to him...
"Well everyone knows that I have been struggling with my command and I knew when I got out there that I had to pound the zone and be affective with my pitching. Just giving my team the chance to win and getting us back into dugout and letting our offense do what they did tonight."
On if he had a groove going…
"I had a groove going and I wasn't going to stop until we scored. I told Coach Childress that and I was going to give us a chance to go out and win this ball game."
Sophomore 1B Chris Andritsos
On comeback win…
"I think it goes back to our approach. We established it in BP. We wanted to be flat and on top of the ball. I mean the wind was blowing in early. Foster did a great job and just got even with that ball and got us on the board early. I think just relentless approach from everyone here really showed tonight and being able to battle through these innings."
