Aggie Women’s Tennis Signs Renee McBryde
Apr 12, 2018 | Women's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Renee McBryde of Wollongong, Australia, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis at Texas A&M, Aggie women's head coach Mark Weaver announced today.
"Coach Jordan Szabo and I are more than delighted to announce the signing of Renee McBryde," Weaver said. "Jordan did an excellent job in the recruiting process with Renee, and adding someone of her caliber of play and quality as a person really makes for an already very strong signing class. With the group that we have coming in with Jayci Goldsmith, Katya Townsend, Brindtha Ramasamy and Renee, the future of the Aggie Women's Tennis program looks very bright."
McBryde is currently No. 953 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings and has been as high as 945. In her home country of Australia, McBryde is currently ranked 41st and has been ranked as high as No. 39.
McBryde's top tournament finishes include reaching the second round of the singles main draw at the 2016 Australian Open Junior Championships and progressing through the qualifying rounds at the $15K Hua Hin to advance to the main draw, where she defeated the tournament's No. 2 seed in the first round. McBryde also was a quarterfinalist in the Girls 18 and Under at the 2017 Australian Championships December Showdown. She was a finalist at the 2017 Tennis World Canberra Capital Open and reached the semifinals at both the 2017 Qld Claycourt Open Championships and the Blacktown Autumn Open AMT.
In doubles, McBryde reached the semifinals of the 2016 Tweed Heads International ($25K) and won both the 2017 Tennis World Canberra Capital Open and the Batemans Bay Tennis Open 2017.
McBryde joins three others who signed with the Aggies during the fall signing period and were listed No. 1 in the nation in Tennis Recruiting Network's Top 25 Winter Rankings: defending Texas high school Class 5A state singles champion Jayci Goldsmith of Dripping Springs, Katya Townsend of Coconut Creek Florida, and Brindtha Ramasamy of Toronto, Canada.
Texas A&M's 2018 regular season concludes this weekend as the Aggies (15-7, 5-6 SEC) play at No. 20 Auburn on Friday at 6 p.m. and at Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m. The SEC Tournament is April 18-22 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
A&M will lose three seniors and the conclusion of the season: Domenica Gonzalez, Macarena Olivares and Eva Paalma.
