A&M Wins Opener at Mississippi State, 6-3, with Late Surge

STARKVILLE, Mississippi – The No. 18 Texas A&M Aggies erased a 3-1 deficit with one run in both the sixth and seventh innings and used a three-run eighth to close the deal in a 6-3 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Friday night's series opener at Dudy Noble Field.
George Janca led the Aggies at the plate with a solo home run and a two-run single. Allonte Wingate came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with two runs. Braden Shewmake batted 3-for-4 with one walk and one run scored. Hunter Coleman drew a pair of walks and added a sacrifice fly in three plate appearances. Will Frizzell added two RBI.
Aggie starter Mitchell Kilkenny battled through 6.0 innings, yielding three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four. Kaylor Chafin (3-0) picked up the win in relief, scattering a hit and a walk while striking out four in 2.0 innings. Nolan Hoffman earned his eighth save of the season, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth, including one strikeout.
The Aggies improved to 31-11 overall and 10-9 in the SEC. Mississippi State dropped to 23-20 overall and 8-11 in league action.

T8 | Wingate stirred the drink again in the eighth with a leadoff single and Shewmake followed with a single up the middle. Coleman drew a walk to fill the bags with Ags and Frizzell used another grounder to knock in a run, this time to second base. With two outs, Janca singled to rightfield, scoring Shewmake and Coleman for the three-run lead. A&M 6, MSU 3.
