Aggies Fall to Arkansas in Game Two, 3-1
May 12, 2018 | Baseball
FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Texas A&M had chances but couldn't come up with the key hits in a 3-1 setback to Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at Baum Stadium.
Texas A&M left 10 on base while going just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Cole Bedford went 2-for-4 and was the only Aggie with multiple hits.
The Razorbacks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Carson Shaddy.
John Doxakis settled in from there, however, as Arkansas didn't score again until the seventh. With runners at second and third and one out, Shaddy hit what appeared to be a routine fly to right. The wind played tricks on Chandler Morris, who was unable to recover to make the play. Shaddy was credited with a double, and both runners scored to give the hosts a 3-0 advantage.
The Aggies tried to rally in the ninth. Logan Foster walked to open the inning. A Zach DeLoach single put runners at the corners with nobody out. Cam Blake plated Foster with a sacrifice fly to pull the Aggies within two. The Aggies had runners at first and second with two outs. A strikeout ended the game, securing the series win for Arkansas.
Doxakis (6-4) took the loss despite a strong 6.1 innings of work. He allowed the three runs on just five hits with seven strikeouts. Nolan Hoffman, Dustin Saenz and Landon Miner saw action out of the A&M bullpen.
Arkansas starter Kacey Murphy worked the first 7.1 innings and improved to 6-4 with the win.
Arkansas improved to 35-15 and 16-10 in league play. Texas A&M dropped to 34-16 and 12-14 in the SEC.
