Aggies Open SEC Tournament with 3-1 Win vs. Vanderbilt
May 22, 2018 | Baseball
HOOVER, Alabama – Texas A&M's pitching combination of Kaylor Chafin and Nolan Hoffman stymied the Vanderbilt Commodores offense in the Aggies' 3-1 opening round win at the SEC Tournament at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium Tuesday morning.
Chafin (5-0) was stellar in a rare start. He weaved 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on six hits and one walk while striking out five. Hoffman came on to work the seventh allowing a pair of base runners and fanning three on his way to his 13th save of the season, one short of the program record held by Jason Jester (2013).
The Texas A&M offense used a two-run fifth to take the lead from Vandy starter Tyler Brown (1-4). Altogether eight different Aggies accounted for their nine hits with Michael Helman recording the lone multi-hit day.
