Trelle McCombs
One of most dynamic and player-friendly head coaches in collegiate golf, Trelle McCombs has been at the helm of the Texas A&M women's golf program since 2007, leading the Aggies to six top 20 finishes nationally.
She has guided the Aggies to two conference titles, including the 2015 SEC Championship, where the Aggies shot a school and tournament 54-hole record 13-under to capture A&M’s first SEC women’s golf title. She has guided three players, Ashley Freeman (2009), Mary Michael Maggio (2012) and Bianca Fabrizio (2015) to individual conference titles. In 11 seasons, the Aggies have finished first or second at the conference championship five times under her watch.
Texas A&M has qualified for NCAA Regionals in each of her seasons as head coach, and advanced to the NCAA Championships six times. The Aggies have posted three Top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships in her tenure, led by a sixth-place finish in 2008, A&M’s best national finish since 1982.
During her tenure at A&M, she has had a player honored as an All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches’ Association 10 times, and produced 21 all-conference selections.
Off the course, she has produced 43 Academic All-Big 12 and SEC Academic Honor Roll selections. She has had seven players selected as a WGCA All-American Scholars while at Texas A&M.
Before she was hired by Texas A&M in 2007, McCombs was already an accomplished head coach with successful stints at Tulsa, Augusta State and Mercer.
McCombs came to A&M after just one season at Tulsa, where two of her players earned All-Conference USA honors.
Prior to that, she has spent three years (2003-06) as the head coach at Augusta State (Ga.) and coached the men's and women's teams at Mercer for four years (1999-2003).
In 2005-06, McCombs led Augusta State to the school's first-ever NCAA regional and national tournament appearances. In just its fifth season as a Division I program, ASU rose as high as 29th in the Golfstat rankings, climbing 107 spots under McCombs' leadership.
The 2005-06 team won six tournament titles while five players captured individual tournament crowns. In 2004-05, McCombs' freshman class was rated as the second-best in the nation by Golfstat.
At Mercer from 1999-03, she was involved in every aspect of the men's and women's programs, including practice preparation, budget planning, recruiting, fund-raising and monitoring academic progress. Her teams boasted a 100 percent graduation rate and 13 academic all-conference honorees along with two all-league selections.
During her tenure, the Mercer men's program improved more than 150 places in the Golfstat rankings.
In addition to her coaching duties at ASU, McCombs served on the Forest Hills Golf Course Management Committee and the Board of Directors of the Greater Augusta Sports Council. She also was tournament director for the Atlanta Junior Golf Association, founded the Josh Gregory/Trelle McCombs Junior Golf Camp and initiated and coordinated the ASU Junior Golf Clinic in conjunction with the Lady Jaguar Invitational.
An accomplished player, McCombs posted a top 10 finish as an amateur in the 1996 Georgia Women's Open, then matched that effort in 2002 as a professional. She tied for 11th in the 2004 Yamaha Georgia Women's Open.
McCombs qualified for the 1998 U.S. Women's Amateur, participated in the 2002 Future's Tour Qualifying School and was a member of the Mid-Florida Golf Tour.
A 1998 graduate of Georgia State with a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology, McCombs was a two-year team captain and won two collegiate tournaments. She earned academic all-conference honors in each of her four seasons.
A native of Macon, Ga., McCombs and her husband, John, were married in 2004.
