Stan Hollmig was a two sport athlete at Texas A&M where he earned two letters in football from 1946-1947 and two letters in baseball from 1947 to 1948. In 1947, Hollmig was named the Most Valuable Player of his football team while earning honorable mention All-American honors. It was that year that he averaged 53.0 yards in nine punts against LSU and led the SWC in punting. While playing on the baseball diamond, Hollmig set A&M’s conference season record for home runs in 1947 and led the SWC in slugging percentage in 1947 and 1948. He was chosen as an All-SWC selection both years he played baseball. Following his career in College Station, Hollmig played three seasons with the Philedelphia Phillies and spent several more years participating in minor league action. After his playing career, Hollmig served as a scout and Regional Supervisor for the Houston Astros until his death in 1981.
