Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum and his staff put the A&M newcomers through their first workouts on Wednesday.

"I was pleased with the newcomers today," Slocum said. "They bounced around and they are eager to learn. We really helped ourselves across the board. They are not the finished product yet, but I was pleased."

Slocum added he was impressed with the athletic ability of Madisonville High School product Chris Taylor. Taylor is listed as a wide receiver on the Aggie roster.

He played quarterback and defensive back in high school, but he impressed me catching the ball," Slocum said.

The newcomers will work twice on Thursday with the veterans reporting for dinner. The entire squad will begin two-a-day workouts on Saturday. Practices are closed to the public.

The Aggies open the season on Sept. 6 against Sam Houston State in a 4 p.m. kickoff at Kyle Field.
