The Texas A&M football team went through a "scripted, controlled" scrimmage Saturday evening at Kyle Field.

"I was pleased with the effort from the entire squad," Head Coach R.C. Slocum said. "We put the older players through a scripted, controlled scrimmage. We will evaluate the film tomorrow, but I thought we had good effort."

The young players were able to go through a full-contact scrimmage and I was pleased with their effort," Slocum added. "We still have a long ways to go as a team, but I like the attitude and the desire to get better with this squad."

Sirr Parker, a junior running back from Los Angeles, suffered a bruised shoulder midway through the scrimmage and did not return.

Shane Lechler (punter/quarterback), Sean Coryatt (linebacker), Matt Mathone (tight end), Jay Brooks (defensive back), Jason Glenn (defensive back) and Chris Valletta (offensive lineman) were all held out of the scrimmage.

Earlier in the day, the Aggies met the public at their annual Photo & Autograph Day.

The team will not workout Sunday morning, but will come back in the afternoon and watch film from the scrimmage and have a weight workout. The two-a-day schedule will resume Monday.

The Aggies open the 1997 season on Saturday, Sept. 6 against Sam Houston State. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Kyle Field. Special discount coupons are now available at Appletree, HEB, Kroger and Randall's grocery stores.

NOTE TO B/CS MEDIA: Coach R.C. Slocum has selected seven Aggie games to be replayed on TCA Cable Channel 18 beginning on Monday, Aug. 25 and running for 12 straight nights at 7 p.m. The seven games are: 1993 games vs. LSU, Texas Tech and Texas; 1994 games vs. Houston and Texas; and the 1995 games vs. Houston and Michigan. These are edited versions without timeouts and huddles. Each of the broadcasts will be preceded by comments from Coach Slocum.
