The Texas A&M football team went through a two-hour controlled and scripted scrimmage Wednesday afternoon on Kyle Field.

"I thought we showed good effort in the scrimmage," Aggie coach R.C. Slocum said. "We still have a lot of work to do to get ready for our season opener next week.

"We have a number of injuries at this time. Most are not significant in terms of keeping players out of a game, but it does limited them in what they can do physically."

Starting cornerback Shun Horn was back in full pads after spraining his ankle on Tuesday, but saw only limited action in the scrimmage.

Missing Tuesday's evening workout with a new injury was junior tight end Dan Campbell, who is slowed with a bruised quadricep. Campbell, who grabbed eight passes for 103 yards in 1996, is engaged in a tight battle with incumbent starter Derrick Spiller.

Also missing the scrimmage were: running back Eric Bernard (knee), running back Sirr Parker (sickness), cornerback Sedrick Curry (strained hamstring), tight end Matt Mahone (broken hand), Chris Valletta (foot) and Delvin Wright (strained groin).

The Aggies are gearing up for their season opener against Sam Houston State at Kyle Field on Sept. 6.
