October 11, 1997
* The 12th Man for the Aggies was Drew Bridges from Odessa, Texas (Permian HS).
* Junior tight end Derrick Spiller posted a career-high four receptions for 44 yards and two touchdowns. His 7-yard touchdown reception from Branndon Stewart on A&M?s opening drive was the first TD catch of his career. He added another in the second quarter on a 14-yard toss from Stewart.
* Junior running back Sirr Parker?s 80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was the longest run of his career and tied for the 13th longest in school history. It was the longest by an Aggie since teammate D?Andre Hardeman set the school record with a 95-yard jaunt last season against Baylor. Parker?s run ranks as the second longest in the Big 12 this season and ties for the eighth longest by an Aggie at Kyle Field. The last time an Aggie had a longer run at Kyle Field was Leeland McElroy, who rambled 81 yards for a score against Houston in 1993.
* Junior linebacker Dat Nguyen, a top candidate for the Butkus Award as the nation?s top linebacker, returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter, his third career touchdown. Last year, Nguyen returned a pickoff 36 yards for a score against Louisiana Tech and as a freshman, he returned an onside kick attempt 46 yards for a touchdown against Middle Tennessee State.
* Early in the second quarter, Nguyen caused an ISU fumble, his second forced fumble of the year and the fifth of his career. The miscue was recovered by sophomore Sean Coryatt, his second recovery of the year and in his career.
* Sophomore running back Dante Hall?s 42-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was his fourth rushing TD of the year and the seventh of his career.
* Junior running back D?Andre Hardeman scored on a 9-yard pass from Randy McCown late in the second quarter, his second TD catch of the year and the third of his career. Overall, Hardeman has scored 23 career touchdowns, including 20 by rushing.
* A&M led, 42-10, at halftime, the second time this season that the Aggies have scored more than 40 points in the first half. Against Southwestern Louisiana, A&M scored 45 first-half points, the most in the modern-era of Aggie football (since 1950).
* The Aggies scored on five of their first six possessions of the game.
* Senior placekicker Kyle Bryant booted eight PATs today, running his career scoring total to 276 points, the second most in A&M history behind Tony Franklin?s record of 291 points in 1975-78. Today, Bryant passed Rodney Thomas (270 points in 1991-94) and Darren Lewis (270 points in 1987-90) on the A&M scoring chart.
* A&M improved its series record against Iowa State to 4-0.
* The Aggies are 40-4-1 at Kyle Field in the 1990s.
* R.C. Slocum improved his career record at A&M to 79-21-2, ranking him No. 2 in school history in career wins. He is chasing the school record of 82 wins (82-53-9) by lengendary coach Homer Norton in 1934-47.
* Iowa State?s 17 points were the most allowed by the Aggies this season and the most allowed by A&M at Kyle Field since Kansas State scored 23 last season.
* Sirr Parker?s 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter was his second straight kickoff return for a touchdown. The last time he returned a kickoff was last year against Texas, when he took it 100 yards for a score. His return today was A&M?s first kickoff return for a TD at Kyle Field since Leeland McElroy returned one 100 yards against Southern Mississippi in 1994.
* Dante Hall missed most of the second half with a thigh bruise. He finished with 72 yards rushing and one TD on eight carries. He had 97 all-purpose yards (2 PR/23 KR). Coming into the game today he had posted three 100-yard rushing performances in four games this season.
* Today?s attendance was 58,159.
* Freshman running back Burnest Rhodes scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter, his third TD of the year. Rhodes finished with a career-high 39 yards and tied his career high with seven carries. He also had seven totes against Sam Houston State (35 yards).
* A&M has scored at least 56 points in three games this season, a first for a regular season in school history. Including the 1990 Holiday Bowl, the 1990 Aggies also did it with big wins against USL (63-14), TCU (56-10) and BYU (65-14) in the Holiday Bowl.
* This season, A&M has recorded 24 offensive plays for 20-yards or more. A&M?s opponents have only eight plays for 20 or more yards with a long play of 38 yards (twice by Colorado). The Aggies have had nine offensive plays for more than 40 yards.
* Sirr Parker rushed for 99 yards and one TD on seven carries, his second best outing of the season. Against North Texas, he rushed for a career-high 124 yards.
* Injury update on Chris Thierry... X-Rays on his neck were negative and he will be listed as questionable for the Kansas State game.
