Foster, the Big 12 Conference Basketball Consultant, became the first coach in history to guide four different Division I schools to 20-win seasons. He was named national coach of the year in 1978 after leading Duke to a 27-7 record and the NCAA finals against Kentucky. That team's efforts were chronicled in John Feinstein's acclaimed book, Forever's Team.
Foster compiled a career record of 467-409 in 33 seasons as head coach at Bloomsburg (Pa.) State, Rutgers, Utah, Duke, South Carolina and Northwestern.
