The Texas A&M men's and women's basketball teams will play host to "Basketball Mania" Tuesday at 9 p.m. at G. Rollie White Coliseum. Admission is free.
Patterned after last year's highly-successful "Midnight Madness," the event is billed as "The Basketball Yell Practice" and will feature the men's and women's basketball players, coaches, Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, Yell Leaders, Reveille, TAMU Dance Team, Aggie Angels and Aggie Gents. A crowd of almost 4,000 attended the event last year.
Sponsored by AT&T Wireless Services, "Basketball Mania" will include many fan- participation contests and games with a variety of prizes and giveaways. Free schedule cards will be distributed before the event and 1,000 posters will be given away at the conclusion.
"We had a great crowd last year and it was a lot of fun for everyone involved," men's coach Tony Barone said. "The neat thing is that the fans can not only meet our team but really get involved in the event with all the games and contests. Our guys are really looking forward to it."
"Last year was a great event and we had great student support," women's coach Candi Harvey said. "When you look at Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa State, they get great student support. I hope that our students recognize that, come out and have a good time and get ready for the start of the season."
