TEXAS A&M HEAD COACH TONY BARONE:
"I learned a valuable lesson tonight. Our press was good as the game went on, but whenever we took it off, we lost all of our intensity. There will be games where we will have to take the press off and we can't lose our intensity. I was pleased with our spurts in the first half. I was also pleased with how well we bounced back after a tough loss to Alabama last Wednesday. I'm not into running up the score. I've been on the other end of those and I don't think it's fair to either team. I was not pleased with our shot selection. We took some bad shots and that is the kind of thing that is infectious. I believe that if you have a good shot, take it. I was very pleased with the way that Calvin (Davis) played. If you look at the NCAA leaders, he leads the nation in points scored per minutes played. He got five stitches at half-time. He's a tough kid."
(On Colorado State game Wednesday) "We're going to have to play our best game of the year against Colorado State. They are an outstanding team and one that is very physical."
TEXAS A&M SENIOR FORWARD SHANNE JONES:
(On first half 19-0 run) "Jerald (Brown) gave us a lift. He hit a couple of threes that gave us the momentum to put them away. Coach (Barone) told us that they were going to be very physical and they were. The key to tonight's game was definitely the play of our guards."
SAM HOUSTON STATE HEAD COACH JERRY HOPKINS:
"We played with them for a while. Maybe their style had some wear and tear on us. We also made some poor decisions. A&M plays a fast-paced offense because they are athletic. Defensively, they try to make you miss three or four running jumpers in a row. They made us miss some jumpers and then they went on a big run. We knew we were going to have to play perfect and we didn't. Texas A&M has a good team out there. I like the way they play. They play hard."
SAM HOUSTON STATE FORWARD DAVID AMAYA:
"We were in it at the beginning, but they had a good run and we did not know how to respond. Texas A&M is a good basketball team."
