Junior forward Calvin Davis scored 19 points with eight rebounds and five blocked shots to lead Texas A&M to a 91-68 victory against Sam Houston State Monday night at G. Rollie White Coliseum.

The Aggies improve to 5-1 with the victory, while the Bearkats drop to 1-5. A&M plays host to Colorado State (4-1) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. A&M is a perfect 5-0 at home this season.

Davis left the game midway through the first half after falling hard to the floor and received five stitches above his right eye. He came back strong in the second half, scoring 12 of his points and posting all five blocks in the final 20 minutes.

The Bearkats took a 22-20 lead with 10:02 left in the first half, but the Aggies went on a 28-5 run over the next seven minutes for a 48-27 lead and led 53-36 at intermission. A&M led by as many as 32 points in the second half.

Sophomore guard Jerald Brown finished with 16 points, 12 in the first half, and made 3- of-6 from three-point range. Junior forward Shanne Jones scored 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting, while senior center Larry Thompson added 12 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore point guard Steve Houston dished out nine assists to go with seven points and three steals while sophomore point guard Brian Barone contributed seven assists and a career-high five steals.

Jeremy Burkhalter led Sam Houston State with 18 points, Charles Naihe scored 16 points and David Amaya added 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Aggies connected on 48.6 percent from the field to only 40.7 percent by the Bearkats and also posted a 42-36 rebounding edge. The Aggies' pressure defense forced 29 Sam Houston State turnovers and came up with 16 steals and eight blocked shots.
