The Texas A&M men's golf team fired the day's best round on Sunday but finished eighth at the U.S. Collegiate Championships at the Slammer and Squire Golf Course at the World Golf Village.

The Aggies carded an even-par 288 in Sunday's final round, the day's best round and the second best round of the tournament. However, A&M opened with rounds of 303-309 to finish with a 900 total, 32 strokes behind tournament champion Florida State, which carded rounds of 286-292-290=868.

Senior All-America Miguel del Angel led the Aggies with rounds of 75-75-70=220 to finish tied for 15th, 10 strokes behind individual tournament champion J.D. Brigman of New Mexico, who carded rounds of 72-70-68=210.

Also for A&M, junior Ryan Palmer tied for 26th at 76-76-73=225, sophomore Lee Reed tied for 38th at 76-82-72=230, freshman Ryan Tull tied for 41st at 77-81-73=231 and freshman Clay Fullick tied for 44th at 76-77-79=232.

"We ended the tournament on a positive note with the best round of the day," A&M coach Bob Ellis said. "We've done that several times this year, but we haven't been able to put it all together in one tournament. We know we can do it but we have to go out and put together three solid rounds."

The Aggies are back in action Friday and Saturday at the MacGregor Downs Intercollegiate in Cary, N.C., the final tune-up for the Big 12 Championships April 27-28 in Hutchinson, Kan.
