Clifton Cook of Howard College has signed a national letter-of- intent to play college basketball at Texas A&M, Aggies head coach Melvin Watkins said Thursday.
A 6-1, 170-pound point guard, Cook averaged 17.1 points, 8.2 assists and 4.0 steals per game last season, earning all-conference and all-region honors. As a senior at Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio, Cook earned all-state honors and was named Dayton player of the year.
"Not many players are as competitive as Clifton," Howard coach Lou Gadino said. "He busts his tail for 40 minutes every game. He can score in traffic, knock down the perimeter jumper and has the ability to get his teammates involved. And Clifton can take over a game defensively."
"Clifton brings needed leadership to our team," Watkins said. "He's a very talented point guard who will help us immediately."
