Texas A&M Head Coach R.C. Slocum welcomed 12 new scholarship freshmen football players to campus on Tuesday in addition to 11 newcomer walkons.
"Everyone reported on time and we're ready to get the process started," Coach Slocum said. "Wednesday will be a day of academic orientation. The first day the players will hit the field is Thursday."
The newcomers will attend Aggie Fish Camp, a freshman orientation held in Palestine, Texas, beginning on Friday along with other freshmen students.
"I hate to lose time away from football, but this is an opportunity for these youngsters to fit in with the rest of the freshman class," Slocum said. "Over the period of their collegiate careers, and from an academic and social standpoint, attending Fish Camp is a good, long-term investment for these young men to experience success on a collegiate level."
The varsity reports for dinner on Friday and the first day of two-a-day workouts will be Monday, Aug. 10.
LOCAL NOTE: One of the newcomer walkons is Matt Murski from A&M Consolidated High School. Murski is expected to work at a linebacker position.
