Shelton Wise of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Paul Jacobs of Jacksonville, Fla., have signed national letters of intent to play college basketball at Texas A&M and will be eligible immediately, Aggies coach Melvin Watkins said Tuesday.

Wise, a 6-4, 205-pound guard, attended prep school last season at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine, where he led his team to the league championship. He attended high school at Moreno Valley (Calif.) High School, where he earned all-state honors and was an honorable mention All-America pick by Blue Ribbon Yearbook.

"We came in on Shelton very late in the recruiting process," Watkins said. Somehow, he got lost in the recruiting shuffle. We think he's a steal. He comes in highly recommended by some very respected coaches. We're excited to have him become a part of our program."

Jacobs, a 6-9, 212-pound forward, graduated from Moberly Junior College in Moberly, Mo., where he was named all-conference. As a freshman, he attended St. John's River College in Palatka, Fla., where he set the school record for blocked shots and was named to the league's all-freshman team. He posted career highs of 29 points and 20 rebounds as a freshman. He graduated from Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Fla.

"For Paul to be available late in the recruiting process created some excitement for us," Watkins said. "We don't have as big a team as we'd like and he's 6-9, so we think he can come in and compete for playing time right away. He's very athletic and skilled and has played junior college basketball so he has some experience under his belt."
