The Texas A&M men's golf team will begin play Monday in the Greg May Honda/Baylor Invitational at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and a final 18 holes on Tuesday. Play begins at 8 a.m. each day.
In addition to A&M, the 12-team field includes Baylor, SMU, Rice, Iowa State, North Texas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Sam Houston State, Southwest Texas State, Southwestern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin and Texas-San Antonio.
"This is a big tournament for us since almost all of the teams in our district are playing," A&M coach Bob Ellis said. "We need to beat these teams to put ourselves in position for a regional bid at the end of the season."
Representing A&M will be seniors Ryan Palmer (Amarillo) and Matt Welch (DeSoto), junior Lee Reed (Rigby, Idaho), sophomores Casey Cronin (Rockwall), Ryan Tull (Georgetown) and Clay Fullick (Baytown), and freshman Sean Gilliland (Killeen).
Among the individual favorites is SMU's Hank Kuehne, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion.
