1998 Lombardi winner and Butkus finalist takes Maxwell Club's top defensive honor.

Texas A&M senior linebacker Dat Nguyen continues to be honored for an outstanding season and Thursday night he received the Chuck Bednarik Trophy honoring the nation's top defensive player at a nationally televised ceremony at the Disney-MGM Studios' Theatre of the Stars at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Nguyen, the Aggies all-time leading tackler, was presented the Chuck Bednarik Trophy by the Maxwell Football Club at the 1998 Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN2. The club's president Ron Jaworski and the award's namesake Chuck Bednarik were on hand to make the announcement.

Joining Nguyen at the ceremony were members of his family and A&M head football coach R.C. Slocum.

Earlier in the week, Nguyen was presented the 1998 Rotary Lombardi Award, honoring the nation's top interior lineman, at a ceremony in Houston.

Nguyen will remain in Orlando, Fla. for the 1998 Butkus Award ceremony which will take place on Friday at Universal Studios. The Butkus Award honors the nation's top linebacker and Nguyen is one of three finalists.
