Texas A&M junior guard Clifton Cook of Dayton, Ohio, has been named Big 12 Conference Rookie of the Week for a record fifth time, the Big 12 office announced Monday.
Iowa State's Marcus Fizer was named rookie of the week four times last season. Last week, Cook averaged 20.0 points in games against Oklahoma and Nebraska. Cook, a transfer from Howard College in Big Spring, Texas, leads the Aggies in scoring (15.6), assists (5.8) and steals (2.6) and is second in rebounding (5.4). He ranks second in the Big 12 Conference in assists and steals and is eighth in scoring.
The Big 12 also released its All-Specialty Teams on Monday as selected by a panel of sports writers who cover the league. Cook was named to the All-Newcomer Team, center Joe White was named to the All-Freshman Team and senior forward Shanne Jones was named to the All-Underrated Team. White averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in conference play while Jones led the Aggies in rebounding (6.1) and ranked second in scoring (14.2).
