The Texas A&M men's golf team finished fourth Saturday at the 47th Annual Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club, the Aggies' highest finish this season.
No. 48-ranked Baylor won the 18-team tournament with rounds of 296-283- 295=874, six strokes ahead of No. 35-ranked Texas-Arlington, which finished second at 299-283-298=880. No. 6-ranked Texas finished third with rounds of 299-290-295=884, followed by A&M at 299-290-299=888.
Texas-Pan American's Manuel Inman won the individual title with a four-under- par total of 74-70-68=212 on the par 72, 7,125-yard layout. Texas-Arlington's Chris Forbes was second at 73-69-71=213.
Senior Ryan Palmer (Amarillo), the defending tournament champion, led a group of three A&M players who tied for 10th place. Palmer carded rounds of 75-70- 75=220, while junior Lee Reed (Rigby, Idaho) posted rounds of 72-73-75=220 and sophomore Clay Fullick (Baytown) fired rounds of 70-76-74=220.
Other A&M scores were senior Matt Welch (DeSoto), tied for 16th at 75-72- 74=221, sophomore Casey Cronin (Rockwall) tied for 50th at 77-75-77=229 and freshman Sean Gilliland (Killeen) alone in 55th place at 78-77-75=230. Freshman Josh McCoy (Perryton), competing as an individual, tied for 29th at 73-70-81=224.
The Aggies are back in action Monday and Tuesday at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate at the Hills of Lakeway in Austin.
