The Texas A&M men's golf team is in 10th place after Monday's opening two rounds of the Cleveland Golf Morris Williams Intercollegiate at Austin Country Club. The tournament concludes with a final 18 holes on Tuesday.
A&M senior Ryan Palmer (Amarillo) is in contention for the individual title after carding rounds of 72-73=145. Palmer trails leader Ryuji Imada of Georgia (72-70=142) by three strokes. Texas freshman David Gossett is in second at 73-71=144. Palmer is in a four-way tie for third place.
As a team, the Aggies carded rounds of 311-310=621 and trail the tournament leader, No. 3-ranked Georgia (299-288=587), by 34 strokes. Georgia leads second place UNLV (592), ranked No. 2, by five shots, followed by No. 7 Houston at 599, and Pepperdine and No. 13 Brigham Young at 601. No. 4-ranked Oklahoma State is in sixth place at 603, followed by No. 6 Texas (604), No. 22 New Mexico (607), No. 31 Southern California (620), A&M (621), No. 32 SMU (622) and No. 20 Oklahoma (636).
Also for A&M, junior Lee Reed (Rigby, Idaho) is tied for 26th at 77-76=153, sophomore Casey Cronin (Rockwall) is tied for 42nd at 78-78=156, sophomore Clay Fullick (Baytown) is tied for 51st at 81-78=159, sophomore Ryan Tull (Georgetown) is in 64th at 79-83=162, senior Matt Welch (DeSoto) is in 68th at 81-85=166 and freshman Josh McCoy (Perryton) is in 69th at 86-83=169.
