The Texas A&M football team practiced for two hours in full pads Wednesday at the grass practice field with an unusually large crowd looking on.

"We had a large number of high school coaches here today, as well as the Blinn Junior College football team," A&M coach R.C. Slocum said. "We always try to accomodate the high school coaches when they want to come out and watch practice. Blinn came to watch and I think that's a fun deal for them to see how a major university conducts practice."

The Texas A&M football program is also gearing up for its annual Coaches Clinic, which will be conducted Friday and Saturday. Close to 400 high school coaches from Texas and across the nation will be in town for the clinic.

"We've had the Clinic as long as I've been the head coach at Texas A&M, and it's always been a good opportunity to 'pay back' the high school coaches for everything they do for us," Slocum said. "A large portion of the players out here are products of Texas high school football, so this a chance for those coaches to come out and see their former players again and for us to thank them for all their hospitality during the recruiting process."

NOTES -- Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Taylor Whitley left practice with a hamstring strain ... in College Station on Wednesday was former Aggie defensive secondary coach Trent Walters, who was in town to evaluate A&M's NFL prospects for his current team, the Minnesota Vikings.
