Jesse King of Detroit, Mich., has signed a national letter-of-intent to play college basketball at Texas A&M, Aggies coach Melvin Watkins said Tuesday.
A 6-foot-6 guard/forward, King earned all-city and all-state honors this season as a senior at Pershing High School, where he averaged 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.0 steals per game. King is rated among the top 10 prospects in Michigan and has been compared to former Pershing High School and current Atlanta Hawks star Steve Smith by Midwest Hoops.
King was also recruited by Tulane, Miami (Fla.), Eastern Michigan, Bradley, Alabama-Birmingham and San Diego State.
"Jesse adds to our strength and depth on the perimeter," Watkins said. "His a very athletic player who will be exciting to watch. We think he can help us offensively but even more important, he brings some defensive intensity to what we are trying to accomplish."
Scott is Watkins' sixth signee this year and third of the spring signing period. Last month, A&M signed 6-11 center Andy Slocum of West Monroe, La., and 6-6 forward Larry Scott of St. James, Md. In November, Watkins signed 6-5 guard Bernard King of Gibsland, La., 6-1 guard Jamaal Gilchrist of Middleburg, Va., and 6-7 forward Carlton Brown of Temple (Texas) Junior College.
