Texas A&M's freshman football players began their two-a-day workouts Wednesday morning in shorts and helmets before donning shoulder pads for the evening workout at the grass practice facility.
Head coach R.C. Slocum was pleased with what he saw in the work ethic of his new players during both the morning and evening practice.
"I'm pleased with the enthusiasm I saw out here," Slocum said. "It was a typical first day for us, we had a bunch of eager guys. Overall I'm pleased with the quality of the workouts and it looked like the guys really worked hard this summer. Looks like our evaluations on these guys were pretty good. Overall it was a good day."
The A&M coaching staff will be working solely with the 31 incoming freshman during four workouts over two days. The veteran Aggies report to campus Thursday evening for dinner and will go through physicals and equipment checks on Friday before having their first combined practice on Saturday morning.
The defending Big 12 Champion Aggies begin defense of their crown on September 4 against Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. in Shreveport, La.
