While the 1999 Texas A&M football team took a day for physicals, academics and compliance meetings, a total of 124 men ranging from age 27 to age 80 reported for the Texas A&M Kickoff Camp.
The Kickoff Camp, a fantasy camp for former students and fans, is a way for Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum to raise funds to assist the Aggie Band and the Sterling C. Evans Library. The camp started in 1993 with 50 members and has grown each year to this year's record of 124 registered campers.
"This is a fun thing for these guys," Slocum said. "They get to sit in on meetings, film sessions, weight workouts and attend practice. They come away with a little better feel for what a college football player goes through to prepare to play each Saturday."
The money raised in seven years has eclipsed $255,000.
The Aggie football team will begin two-a-day workouts on Saturday.
