The No. 7-ranked Texas A&M football team continued two-a-day workouts Monday in shorts and shoulder pads at the grass practice facility at Kyle Field.
Head coach R.C. Slocum welcomed a new scholarship player to the defending Big 12 Champions Monday evening as Jessie Everline participated in his first A&M practice.
The true freshman from Bryan High School becomes the 25th scholarship freshman for the Aggies in camp and fills the scholarship vacancy created when West Monroe, Louisiana's Brian West inked a professional baseball contract earlier this summer. Everline is a member of the 105-man two-a-day roster.
Everline checked in at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, and donned number 49 at his first practice. He will be working at the outside linebacker position under the guidance of A&M defensive coordinator and OLB's coach Mike Hankwitz.
Missing both workouts Monday due to injury were junior defensive lineman Ron Edwards, junior wide receiver Michael Jennings, and freshman defensive lineman Shannon Mitchell.
Edwards is suffering from a groin injury, while Jennings has subluxed the patella in his left knee. Mitchell is being hampered by a left hip flexor.
Meanwhile, redshirt freshman tight end Michael de la Torre missed only the evening workout due to a mild concussion.
All, except Jennings, are listed day-to-day. Jennings will most likely miss several workouts this week for his rehab.
The defending Big 12 Champion Aggies begin defense of their crown on September 4 against Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. in Shreveport, La.
