The Texas A&M football squad had its first full-speed scrimmage of the fall Wednesday night under the watchful eye of a team of officials at the grass practice fields.
"I was pleased to come through the first scrimmage without any significant injuries," head coach R.C. Slocum said. "It was a typical first scrimmage -- we had good effort but were a little bit ragged. It's obvious we still have a lot of work to do before we're ready for our season opener. I was disappointed with the amount of penalties, and that's something we will work to correct. It was a good evaluation of where we're at this early in the year."
No new injuries came out of the scrimmage. Missing the scrimmage were: freshman defensive back Jason Frederick (hip), junior defensive lineman Ron Edwards (groin) and senior wide receiver Michael Jennings (subluxed patella).
Returning to practice was freshman defensive lineman Shannon Mitchell, who had missed practice because of a hip injury.
