The No. 7-ranked Texas A&M football team continued two-a-day workouts Friday in shorts and shoulder pads in the morning before donning full pads for the evening workout at the grass practice facility at Kyle Field.
After completing seven days of workouts, head coach R.C. Slocum is happy with the progress.
"It's been a good first week for us," Slocum said. "We've had a lot of good work shown from all aspects of the team.
"We've got a few guys banged-up right now, and we're always concerned about injuries in two-a-days. With one workout Saturday and just conditioning on Sunday, that should help us with the healing a bit."
Missing workouts Friday due to injury were junior defensive lineman Ron Edwards, junior wide receiver Michael Jennings, senior linebacker Sean Coryatt, freshman defensive lineman Ty Warren, junior defensive back Ronald Patton, senior linebacker Chris Thierry and senior All-America punter Shane Lechler.
Edwards is suffering from a groin injury, while Jennings is recovering from a subluxed patella in his left knee. Other injuries include Coryatt with a strained groin, Warren with recent surgery to place a screw in his left thumb, Patton with a strained right thigh, Thierry has sprained his right ankle, and Lechler pulled the calf muscle in his right leg, which is also his kicking leg.
The Aggies will meet many of their fans on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Kyle Field as Houston Cellular presents Fan Autograph and Photo Day.
Fans are encouraged to park south of Kyle Field and enter the stadium grounds from the southeast and southwest gates. Gates will be open at 9 a.m. and fans can watch the 1998 highlight video on the JumboTron. An announcement will be made at 10 a.m. and fans may move to the field.
The autograph and photo session will end at 11 a.m.
The defending Big 12 Champion Aggies begin their season on September 4 against Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. in Shreveport, La.
