The No. 7-ranked Texas A&M football team continued two-a-day workouts Monday in full pads at the grass practice facility at Kyle Field.
Among those missing portions of practice due to injury were sophomore wide receiver Bethel Johnson, senior running back Eric Bernard, senior linebacker Chad Frantzen, sophomore Amon Simon, freshman linebacker Jessie Everline, freshman offensive lineman Andre Brooks, senior wide receiver Matt Bumgardner, junior wide receiver Michael Jennings, freshman defensive lineman Ty Warren, senior linebacker Chris Thierry and senior All-America punter Shane Lechler.
Johnson had a pin inserted in his right foot Monday afternoon after suffering a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal. He is expected to miss about two weeks of practice, but his status for the Aggies' season opener at Louisiana Tech is questionable.
"We don't know exactly when Bethel acquired the injury," head coach R.C. Slocum said. "It's a similar injury to what Seth McKinney had last year. We could have done nothing about it now, but then run the risk of it getting worse later. So we decided to do something about it now. Bethel's surgery was a success and the doctor feels like we have a good repair."
New injury diagnosis were Bernard with a strained back, Frantzen and Simon with right ankle sprains, Everline with a left thigh bruise, Brooks with a right knee bruise, Bumgardner with a quadriceps strain.
Many of the injuries have return dates listed as day-to-day.
Returning to workouts Monday were junior defensive lineman Ron Edwards, senior linebacker Sean Coryatt and junior defensive back Ronald Patton.
The defending Big 12 Champion Aggies begin their season on September 4 against Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. in Shreveport, La.
