Terence Kitchens' 51-yard field goal last week in Texas A&M's 37-17 win over Louisiana Tech at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. was chosen as the Most Unusual Play of the Week by COMPAQ College Plays of the Week.

What made Kitchens' kick so memorable, and qualified it for the Most Unusual category, was that it bounced off the right upright and then off the crossbar before falling through for the three points.

The attempt was only the second in Kitchens' career. Earlier in the game, the junior from Lumberton, Texas connected on a 50-yard attempt.

Texas A&M's Andy Richardson, who is the athletic department's television production manager, captured the field goal on video from his groundlevel position directly behind the goalpost as did A&M athletic videographer Nick Arrott from his angle near the pressbox. It was their video that was submitted for the weekly contest.

The Aggies and A&M Athletic Video Productions were honored several times last season in a variety of categories.

COMPAQ College Plays of the Week highlights the most exciting and inspiring plays from all participating colleges and universities each week of the football and basketball seasons. A panel of sportswriters and television sports media personnel meet each week to judge the entries.

The winning selections are sent via satellite for replay on stations across the nation.

Categories include COMPAQ College Football Play of the Week, Best Run, Best Return, Best Defensive Play, Best Hit, Best Reception, Special Mention, Most Unusual, and Best Hustle.

The No. 7-ranked Aggies, 1-0, are off this week as they prepare for their home opener against Tulsa on Saturday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Kyle Field.
